šŸŽ¬ Films to Rewatch this 4th of July

"And that's when we lost the Department of Homeland Security"

šŸŽ† Happy Thursday July 3rd,

Tomorrow is the 4th of July (cue the explosions) and Flick has been saving his hard-earned money these last few months to put on a firework show for his friends…too bad he doesn’t have any!

Well actually, he might’ve just made his first friends! Special thanks to Lauren Kirk and Zach Lay who helped him compile his picks.

Wherever you are this summer, find a cozy couch before the fireworks get started and rewatch some of these films (Flick’s pick is in green)

šŸŽ„ National Treasure starring Nicolas Cage (2004)

šŸ“œ What if I told you the only way to save The Declaration of Independence was to steal it?

National Treasure follows Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage) as he deciphers secret codes, dodges rival treasure hunters, and uncovers a conspiracy hidden in America’s founding documents. What could’ve been just another action flick became a surprisingly earnest, clue-hopping adventure that convinced a generation to give history class another chance.

Rather than leaning on pure action, National Treasure embraces sincerity, curiosity, and the thrill of solving elaborate puzzles. It’s not a heist movie, it’s a love letter to American lore, with just enough camp to make it endlessly rewatchable.

Director Jon Turteltaub (known for Cool Runnings and While You Were Sleeping) keeps the pace tight and the tone fun, striking a balance between historical mystery and popcorn blockbuster. From cryptic riddles in church crypts to full speed chases through landmarks, this movie never loses its sense of discovery.

Nicolas Cage leads with convincing passion, flanked by Diane Kruger and Justin Bartha. With Sean Bean and Jon Voight joining the cast, this film hits a sweet spot between Indiana Jones and a high stakes mystery novel.

Pretty cool huh? Now, here’s some film resources for you as you rewatch…

šŸ· What to drink while watching National Treasure

Here’s an easy-to-make beverage to keep away the heat by just adding a few lemons (get it?)…and a couple other ingredients. It comes in both an alcoholic and non-alcoholic option for you folks who’ve already had too many seltzers…

ā€œSeventeen Seventy-Sipā€

Ingredients

  • Lemonade

  • Cherry 7UP

  • Blueberries (or a lemon wedge)

  • Ice

  • 1 oz. vodka (optional)

Instructions

  • Fill a glass with ice and lemonade (optional: add vodka)

  • Top with Cherry 7UP

  • Garnish with blueberries or a lemon wedge (or both!)

  • Lean over to your movie partner and whisper, "I'm gonna steal the Declaration of Independence."

Enjoy responsibly.

ā–¶ļø Rewatch-worthy Firework Scenes

ā€œNight Gameā€ from The Sandlot

We’re not afraid to say it: this is the BEST fireworks scene of all-time. You just can’t beat Ray Charles and Baseball…

ā€œYondu Funeralā€ from Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2

We’re not crying, you’re crying. This scene is the heart of the entire film…

ā€œBilbo’s Birthday Party’ from The Fellowship of the Ringā€

We can’t miss an opportunity to plug our favorite franchise of all time and this scene has so much character building and call backs to The Hobbit…
